Course Description:
Autism and Asperger’s Disorder are two of the five pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) found in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders DSM-IV-TR (fourth edition). These disorders, more commonly referred to today as autism spectrum disorders (ASDs), are characterized by varying degrees of impairment in communication, social skills, and repetitive patterns of behavior. This program is designed to assist health care providers and others in identifying and managing autism spectrum disorders. The course focuses on autism and Asperger’s Disorder.
Course Objective:
Upon completing this program, participants should be able to:
  • Screen for autism spectrum disorders;
  • Manage the treatment of patients with autism spectrum disorders; and
  • Guide family members and patients in coping with autism spectrum disorders.
Intended Audience:
Author Bio:
Dr. Susan Blandino is a licensed psychologist in private practice in Allen, Texas. She has specialty interests in the areas of autism spectrum disorders and psychological assessment. Dr. Blandino has been practicing with school aged children and adolescents since 1996. Her private practice focuses on helping those with autism spectrum disorder and their families, conducting psychological evaluations, and treating anxiety and mood disorders. Dr. Blandino also has a close family member affected with an autism spectrum disorder.
